Kathleen Leiper of the Riverside Gallery explains the benefits of the Scottish Arts Council's OWN ART scheme: Early in 2005, RIVERSIDE GALLERY were selected by the Scottish Arts Council to be a licensed broker of the OWN ART scheme. Buying a piece of art or craft is easy and affordable. You can buy painting, sculpture, artist prints, photographs, ceramics, glass, jewellery, metalwork and textiles – in fact anything by a living artist. |
Through OWN ART you can buy a work of contemporary art or craft, interest free. You can borrow up to £2,000 or as little as £100 and pay back the loan over 10 months – interest free*. (Typical 0% APR) .
The idea is great, and the principles are simple. Riverside, through the Scottish Arts Council, offer their buyers the opportunity of taking a piece of work away, once the paperwork is completed and approved. The scheme is particularly helpful to those people who see the opportunity of owning a higher priced work of art out of their reach. You will need a bank account that can handle direct debits. You will also need proof of identity with your address on it, such as a bill or a driver's licence. You also need to be over 18. Importantly, there are absolutely no administration charges or handling fees when you take out the loan.
The scheme benefits everyone – the buyer, the artist and the gallery. Riverside Gallery is a licensed broker of Own Art Loans |
